MR SPOQUI FAMILY MAGAZINE
“We are four siblings, three girls and one boy. We have lived in Chile, but now we are in Portugal, with half of our family. Our names and ages are:
- Amanda Baeza, 21 years old. She is studying communication design in the College of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.
- Milena Baeza, 19 years old. She is studying in the Superior Music School of Lisbon.
- Blanca Baeza, 16 years old. She is practicing ballet and contemporary dance at the local school.
- Tiago Baeza, 13 years old. He is a trumpet player.
We started our family magazine in January 2009, and we called it “Mr Spoqui” (why? We do not know. It is the mysterious result of our games and explorations). Our goal was (and still is) to keep memories of our adventures, and to share them with our readers. Our magazine is a plataform where we can develop our knowledges and interests. It is also a place to make questions (both formal and conceptual) that we are not able to make at school. Mr Spoqui is published monthly (sometimes bi-monthly), and each edition explores a different topic (like, “myth”, “face”, “memory”, “house”, etc). The production is handcrafted, with a lot of love, creativity and non-comercial purposes. Just for the delight of keep memories on our shelves, and to share them. Thanks to our blog, our publications started to interact with other kind of readers. We launched contests and we have received collaboration proporsals from around the world. This is expanding our minds, and our explorations are more interesting now. The most exciting part about this sharing process, is the growing connection between the collaborators. With people.
We do not know where we are going with this project, this is like a slow work in progress. For us, the germination and the development of an idea, the effort of keeping it alive an help it grow, is the biggest challenge.”
